One of the newest ships in the Carnival fleet, the compact Carnival Luminosa is made for family fun in the sun. Regularly based in Australian ports, it’s fast becoming a favourite with local cruisers who enjoy the Carnival vibe with an Italian twist.

The ship began life as Costa Luminosa in 2009, sailing to European destinations with Italian cruise line Costa Cruises. It underwent an extensive refurbishment to join the Carnival fleet in 2022, but can’t hide it’s stylish European roots. The bright and breezy interiors feature lots of natural light, elaborate artworks and sculptures, and touches of gold.

Though it doesn’t have all the flashy features of its sister ships (so no waterslides or roller coasters), there’s plenty to keep everyone entertained. There are two swimming pools (including one that’s just for adults), a multi-sports court, mini golf, a video game arcade and much more. Lively deck parties will have everyone dancing the night away or curl up with some popcorn in a deck chair for a Dive In Movie.

Kids’ clubs cater for little ones while teens can hang out in cool spaces that offer games, karaoke, movies and parties. They will all love the whimsical world of Dr Seuss at Sea, with special performances, story time, crafts and breakfast with the characters. Adults can escape to the tranquillity of the Serenity Retreat or book in for a relaxing treatment at the Cloud 9 Spa.

When you’re hungry, there are more than a dozen dining options ranging from the main dining room and all-day buffet to specialty restaurants serving pizza, sushi, steak and seafood. Enjoy colourful cocktails at the RedFrog Rum Bar, have some laughs at the Punchliner Comedy Club and catch a show in the theatre.

Carnival Luminosa carries 2,260 passengers in accommodations ranging from comfortable and budget-friendly interior options to oceanview and balcony cabins, up to spacious and elegant suites. Splash out on Cloud 9 Spa room (available across all categories) to enjoy extras like ELEMIS toiletries, robe and slippers, unlimited access to the hydrotherapy pool and thermal suite, complimentary fitness classes, and discounts on treatments.
